This new series is a continuation of my process using geometric shapes and experimentation with materials. I measure my squares, apply a variety of handmade acrylic paints and add texture and depth by applying oil pastels over the paints. I mix many of my paints from highly concentrated dry pigments that I purchase at a specialty store in NYC. These are very unique colors and I can also control the texture of the paint itself. A wonderful process. My work has more depth, a different finish, and strong colors that I cannot get from paints made by any manufacturer.
I use several different colors of pastels for each individual section. I layer them to add energy, then the layers create an interesting and esthetic surface. I finish each painting by applying a gesso mixture for the outside border and spray each piece with a clear acrylic finish to protect them.
